Although Rigel is not used as a lesson horse, he is the inspiration behind our name: Bright Star. Rigel is named after the brightest star in the constellation Orion. He is a BLM mustang, and quite the star himself. Rigel is owned by Lisa Paddleford, trained and competed by Kari Hall. He has very successfully competed in dressage, eventing, and more, qualifying and placing in the USDF Region 6 Championships, qualifying and placing in the USEA Area IX Championships, and qualifying for and competing in the American Eventing Championships. Rigel is extremely intelligent and talented, and has been an invaluable partner to both Lisa and Kari. At Bright Star Riding we celebrate the Mustang and honor their versatility and capability.
Yonder is a 7, coming 8 year-old pony who has become such a fun little lesson pony. He has been great in the program helping students practice dressage, jumping, and trail riding. He is very curious and can be so affectionate, you might worry he will crawl into your back pocket! He has shown locally and won Reserved Champion in his division at the Teton County Fair last year. Yonder is owned by Lisa Paddleford, and is the cutest addition to the Bright Star herd. A super fun guy!
HotShot is the sweetest, most steady mount you could ever ask for. He is a gorgeous buckskin Morgan with dapples to boot! He started giving lesson and competing later in his life, but you would never know it by how consistent, willing, and patient he is with his students. At 20 years-old, he is so happy to have a job and to help teach many their horsemanship skills. HotShot is owned by Lisa Paddleford, and is a generous addition to the Bright Star herd. We just love this handsome boy!
Promise is a 24 year-old Arabian-cross mare that is affectionately known as "The Unicorn". But don't let her age fool you! This mare will cart little ones around at barely a crawl making sure they're safe, and then galavant around a jump course with ease, all in the same day! She has been teaching students how to ride for a long time, and is enjoying all of the attention she gets from the gaggle of students that adore her. She has a trot that floats big and forward, and a canter to which you could sip tea. She has been owned by Kari Hall for 22 years, coming to her as a 4-H rescue horse back in Maryland. She shows no signs of slowing down, unless she is doing her beginner lessons when she shows her patience like the old pro that she is.
Finn is a 10 year-old OTTB (Off the Track Thoroughbred) that has proven to excel in the lesson program. He is doing exceedingly well, showing that he just loves to have a job that keeps him learning. Finn has done so well with beginners and advanced riders alike, and proves he has the patience and good intentions to be a solid lesson horse. We have all fallen in love with Finn, and can't wait to see him shine as he begins to show and advance. Finn is owned by Briley Pickerill and is a great addition to the Bright Star herd.
Orion is a 16 year old Mustang that just began his training last year with Kari. He came to us having only been a pack horse, but has proved to have major smarts and talent. Our more advanced riders love to work with him and teach him new things, and he is happy to carry younger confident riders as well. He is a super cute mover and a very honest mount. We are so excited to work with him more this season and see what other skills interest him.
Lyra is a 19 year old Mustang that came to BSR last Spring. She has really done it all, Pony Club, 4-H, gymkhanas, eventing, dressage, western, vaulting, and lessons. Lyra is a fun and willing little mare that knows her job and is always happy to do it. She is steady and reliable for every lesson, and we believe that if she could show up every day with a smile on her face, she would! Lyra is a real pro, and as close to push-button as it gets. She still has plenty of energy and loves teaches her students how to jump confidently and safely. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful gal. Lyra has found her forever home with Kari.
Muffet is a 7 year old Mustang that is a newer addition to BSR and we love her! Muffet came through the Honor Farm program where inmates work with BLM Mustangs to gentle them and begin their training. Her first owner was a talented young rider that was able to expose her to all kinds of fun and different disciplines. She is super smart, incredibly willing, and absolutely loves to jump. Muffet is a flashy little mover and has been working on JH Citizens Mounted Patrol skills, her dressage, and de-sensitizing to all the weird things she may see in the big world out there. Along with BSR students, she will have lots of love from her own young rider this summer, and we couldn’t be more excited to see her show off.
Artie, short for Artemis, Greek Goddess of the Hunt and Protector of Little Girls, belongs to BSR rider Emerson. Although she is not officially in the lesson program, she is always such a character that her personality cannot be ignored. Artie is 4 this Spring and has already learned so much with BSR over the past year. Although she has silly baby moments, she is a sweet girl that loves attention and being rewarded for a job well done. She is adored, and she will be a stunning mare that will take her rider far in any discipline they choose.
